3 × 4 or 4 × 6: Choosing a Coffee Bag Label Size

Choose between a 3 × 4 and 4 × 6 inch coffee label by measuring a filled, closed bag. Bag weight alone does not determine the available front panel. Gussets, valves, zippers and folds all affect where a label can sit neatly.

Start with a filled bag

Fill one bag to its normal level and close it as you would for a customer. Measure the smooth front area while leaving the closure and valve clear. A measurement taken from an empty flat pouch can overestimate the area that will stay flat in use.

Try both sizes on paper

Cut out a 3 × 4 inch rectangle and position it on the front. Then try 4 × 6 inches. View the bag from the distance a customer would normally see it. Choose the smaller layout if the larger one crosses a fold, hides the packaging or gets too close to the valve. More printed area is useful only when it remains readable and well supported.

Build a clear information hierarchy

Give your brand and coffee name a clear place first, then arrange roast, origin and tasting notes in a consistent order. Check the smallest text at actual print size. If your design becomes crowded, shorten the copy or revise the layout instead of reducing everything until it is difficult to read.

Know the material

CrispLabelCo’s dedicated coffee bag product uses matte paper without lamination. It suits dry packaging and is not waterproof. Check adhesion on your actual bag, particularly with textured kraft or coated films. Keep labels away from seams that flex when the customer picks up the bag.

Each roast with different artwork requires a separate roll. Short runs from 100 labels let you keep seasonal releases and everyday blends organized without combining designs on one roll.
